Atelier Badem having fun
Did you know __
Atelier Badem is a bag label from Amsterdam. It is in fact a one-woman business and all the designs are crafted in house.
Designer Jana values the act of play and experiment. The designs derive from her exploration of daily life combined with her background in architectural design. The bags are approached as spatial models and volumes.
With Atelier Badem Jana also explores the notion of sustainability through circularity. Through material, but also through uses of the bag.
A Badem bag is made and designed for at least of 80% with recycled materials. The goal is to increase further. However, this also involved the user.
As a user you can contribute to the sustainability cause by recycling your Badem bag in the atelier. Also regular maintenace of your bag will increase durability and increase your relationship to your bag and your environment.
All the designs are handmade which make Atelier Badem a slow fashion practice. The atelier offers custom orders and in limited quantities. This approach results in a sustainable business, offering one of a kind bags.

Currently there’s no intern position available, however Atelier Badem is always exploring new collaborations so don’t hesitate to get in touch!

The used materials derive from industrial waste. The body of the bag is crafted with truck tarp which has been discarded from the Ruhr industry in Germany. Just across to the Dutch border. The YKK zippers and Amann Mettler thread are collected from the piles of dead stock materials from the fashion industry.
You might wonder, rightly so, why would they throw out new materials? The answer is the gazillion trend-waves a year which dictate which colours are hot, and which are not. Atelier Badem does not follow trends, instead promotes ageless and authentic designs.

The lining of the bag is created with tent fabric. During the summer season Jana will head out to collect trashed tents from festival sites. The tent fabrics are then sorted, cleaned and prepared for an order. The fabric is super light and comes in funky colours, it also adds an extra layer to the bag to protect your belongings from rain.
Check out this 1-minute trailer of Jana sourcing tents at the desolated Mysteryland grounds during summer 2019.
